CELEBRATION OF THE TABLE TENNIS DAY ON 28th APRIL 2024
We celebrated World Table Tennis Day (WTTD) on 28th April 2024 at the Basketball playground of Rusizi Youth Center. It is the day we celebrated table tennis, as well as the universality and social inclusiveness the sport represents. Internationally, World Table Tennis Day was celebrated on 23 April, honoring Ivor Montagu, organizer of the first World Table Tennis Championships in 1926 and the founder and first president of the ITTF. Our organization, Youth Led Musical Therapy celebrated the joy of playing table tennis for fun, bringing 5000 persons together, focusing less on competition and more on participation and enjoyment.
Table Tennis Competition
We organized a one-day tournament of Table Tennis among the 18 teams of Young boys and girls of Rusizi District and the winners were awarded. This event was advertised on different Local newspapers such as UMUSEKE news paper.

We invited 4 cultural troops that entertained the public who gathered on the playground of Rusizi Youth Center and in their music and dances the theme of the day was to address a pressing and crucial issue to the Rwandan society of rapid increase in teenage pregnancy among young girls and they also focused on Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion which focuses on achieving gender equality, protection, and empowerment of all.
Equipments for table tennis continuity
Youth Led Musical Therapy has got funds from ITTF and this amount helped us to purchase a 2 tables tennis, 4 boxes of balls, 4 rackets, 2 nets, 2 whistles, leaflets we hired a tent, chairs and public sound. As part of the tournament, we provided awards, refreshment, transport fees to winners clubs of dancers and players, referees, coaches and judges.
This event was an occasion to create a venue for the community of Rwanda and DR Congo to meet and reconcile because of sport, a tool for conflict resolution, reconciliation and peace-building. Our Table tennis transcended borders and unites people of all backgrounds, making it the ideal platform to champion diversity and inclusion. To amplify our message, we invited passionate individuals locally or from both countries to join us in spreading the joy of the game of Table tennis and promoting social change. Part of the reason for this is that with our Table tennis tournament, the construct of the game was all about fair play. People participated, they knew that they're competing against other people, and that's what helped to bring them together. The beauty of the racket sport was the diversity amongst participants. Table tennis players spanned across race and ethnicity, gender, sexuality, age, physical and mental abilities
